Warning: Pre-Alpha

This game is currently in pre-alpha, and at this time, I do not recommend running a game in it yet. Every single game mechanic and piece of lore is subject to potentially breaking changes.

Attributes

Your character has 5 attributes which describe, in broad strokes, what a character is about:

Allocating Attributes

Your attributes are numbers, which go from 0 to 5.

When you create your character, you have a 0, a 1, a 2, a 3, and a 4, and you can assign these values to your attributes as you wish.

Vigor

Vigor represents your character's strength and resilience. It is the attribute of soldiers, mercenaries, raiders, and other hired muscle who can force their will onto a battlefield.

Qualities & flaws. Here are typical character traits which depend on vigor. You can use this for your character, or come up with different traits of personality:

  • Characters with high vigor tend to be confident, and reliable, but can sometimes be reckless, or boastful.
  • Characters for whom vigor is their lowest attribute tend to be careful, and calm, but could sometimes be lazy, or paranoid.

Mechanical uses. Vigor is the attribute of melee bruisers, and tanks who can protect the rest of their team by taking hits for them.

Speed

Speed represents your character's reflexes and agility. It is the attribute of couriers, assassins and drivers, those who are constantly in danger, but never let the danger catch up to them.

Qualities and flaws. Here are typical character traits which depend on speed. You can use this for your character, or come up with different traits of personality:

  • Characters with high speed tend to be energetic and resourceful, but can sometimes be cowardly or impulsive.
  • Characters for whom speed is their lowest attribute tend to be calculated and reassuring, but could sometimes be clumsy, or listless.

Mechanical uses. Speed is the attribute of movement-based characters, who contribute to their team by always being wherever they are most needed.

Technique

Technique represents your character's unique expertise, the hard skills they took years to master. It is the attribute of tinkerers, doctors, and anyone who has the ability to turn the wasteland into a place worth living in.

Qualities and flaws. Here are typical character traits which depend on technique. You can use this for your character, or come up with different traits of personality:

  • Characters with high technique tend to be sharp or curious, but can sometimes be stubborn or elitist.
  • Characters for whom technique is their lowest attribute tend to be spontaneous and positive, but could sometimes be negligent, or naive.

Mechanical uses. Technique is used to de-buff enemies and interact with the environment.

Presence

Presence represents your character charisma, leadership, and soft skills they've mastered by interacting with other people their entire life. It is the attribute of merchants, teachers, community leaders and artists. In other words, those who focus on the one thing that hasn't changed after the world was destroyed: the human heart.

Qualities and flaws. Here are typical character traits which depend on presence. You can use this for your character, or come up with different traits of personality:

  • Characters with high presence tend to be friendly and considerate, but can sometimes be narcissistic or dishonest.
  • Characters for whom presence is their lowest attribute tend to be humble and loyal, but could sometimes be reserved, or rude.

Mechanical uses. Presence is the perfect attribute for support characters, who want to buff their allies.

Luck

Luck represents your character's good fortune (...or lack thereof). Not everyone who made it this far in the apocalypse got there through ruthless violence. Some were just... At the right place, at the right time.

Qualities and flaws. Here are typical character traits which depend on luck. You can use this for your character, or come up with different traits of personality:

  • Characters with high luck tend to be optimistic, but can sometimes be superstitious.
  • Characters for whom luck is their lowest attribute tend to be rational, but could sometimes get jealous of others.

Mechanical uses. Luck is the attribute of high risk, high reward gameplay, and is used to find more loot out in the wasteland.

  • Pushing your Luck: When you roll your Luck or lower on an attribute roll, you can "push your luck": flip a coin, and depending on the result, you either critically succeed, or suffer a fumble!
  • Actions: Lucky Shot
  • Perk Trees: Gambler
  • Skill Trees:
