Warning: Pre-Alpha

This game is currently in pre-alpha, and at this time, I do not recommend running a game in it yet. Every single game mechanic and piece of lore is subject to potentially breaking changes.

Hiding

While hidden, enemies do not know where you are and cannot attack you. At the end of each of your turns, if an enemy creature can see you, you are no longer hidden.

Loud actions. Some actions will reveal you if you use them while hidden. Those actions are called "loud".

Being exposed. If your movement or the movement of another creature causes you to be within the line of sight of an enemy, then you are considered exposed.

When you become exposed, roll Speed contested by the technique or luck of the creature you are exposed from. If the creature cannot see you, you have advantage. On a failure, you are no longer hidden.

If you are exposed by multiple creatures at once, or become exposed multiple times in a single turn, you keep the result from your roll, and use it to contest the Technique of each creature you are exposed from.

However, if some of the creatures can see you and others cannot, make two rolls: one with advantage, and one without. You use the corresponding roll for each creature.

Stealth Takedowns. Outside of combat, if you are within 1 meter of a sleeping or incapacitated humanoid or animal, you can take 1 minute to perform a "stealth takedown". Roll speed contested by the technique or luck of the creature. If it cannot see you, you have advantage.

  • On a failure, the creature wakes up. If combat starts, the creature is surprised.
  • On a success, choose one: the creature dies, or it is simply reduced to 0 hit points and is incapacitated until it regains at least 1 hit point.
Example

In the following image, the green player character wants to scurry from behind one wall to another while hidden. However, doing so will make them enter a space from which they will be exposed, so they will have to roll Stealth. If they fail, or end their turn in the orange area, they are no longer hidden.

In this second example, the room is filled with a heavy fog, so the enemy can only see within 1m of themselves. If the player character enters the cloud, they will be within the enemy's line of sight, but can't be seen, so they make a Stealth check with advantage. If they fail, they are no longer hidden.

If they stay hidden, and then move within 1m of the enemy, then the enemy could now see the player character. Because of this, the player must make a second Stealth check, without advantage. If they fail, or end their turn in the orange area, they are no longer hidden.
