Warning: Pre-Alpha
This game is currently in pre-alpha, and at this time, I do not recommend running a game in it yet. Every single game mechanic and piece of lore is subject to potentially breaking changes.

The Fallen Zenith
The Zenith was an orbital station dedicated to space tourism. It was designed to withstand the conditions of outer space, and as a result, it received minimal damage from the Flare. However, the shuttles which were meant to bring the passengers and crew back to Earth never arrived, and everyone was stranded in space for 20 years.
Commander Isaac Jones. After the Flare, the head of the security personnel aboard the station took control to try to maintain order and ensure the survival of the greatest numbers.
He established martial law, and forced the former tourists to work on the station to make it self-sufficient. He personally interviewed every adult on board, to give them a job best suited to their skill sets.
Electricians would work on maintainance for the station's various life support systems. Farmers would work on its aquaponic farms. Teachers would start holding classes for the many children who were on the station.
The Zenith's Fall. For a while, Commander Jones' iron grip on the station kept the order intact, and the Zenith was peaceful. However, nothing lasts forever.
After 20 years, it became harder and harder to keep the station together. Systems kept breaking down, and the pieces needed to repair them ran out. New pathogens started decimating the food supplies.
Eventually, it came to a point where hard decisions had to be made - the kind where Commander Jones had to select which mouths the station could not afford to feed anymore. He did not hesitate to choose "volunteers", which he claimed would be sacrificed for the greater good.
The volunteers, as well as their families, rebelled against Commander Jones's rule. They offered another way: to bring the station back down to Earth. They weren't sure they could survive the landing... but they would rather take this chance.
They would either all die together, or all survive together. It was better than to heartlessly cull their loved ones just to live a couple more years, on a clearly crumbling piece of space junk which was doomed to fall one day or another anyway.
A Fight broke out, and the rebels won. The Zenith was de-orbited, and crash-landed back on Earth. With some luck, the passengers managed to survive the fall.
Now, the passengers need to rebuild their community on the surface, using the carcass of the Fallen Zenith as their home. Only problem: they have no idea how society has changed down there. They don't know about raiders, about phytozoids, about rogue AIs, or about sun-storms.
And to make matters worse, it seems the crash opened a hole in the hull of the brig, where Commander Jones and his men were kept prisoner. They have fled from the crash site, and have disappeared somewhere into the wasteland - but the Fallen Zenith has clearly not heard the last of him.
Using the Zenith
The Zenith can be a great starting location for your campaign, especially with new players.
You can place the Zenith anywhere you want on Earth, for example, near your home town!
And because its newly-landed passengers have been isolated from the events on the surface for 20 years, they will be discovering the world of Flare Fall at the same time as your players.
