Super-AI

As a rule of thumb, the more computing power you grant an AI, the better it will perform. So when fusion energy cut the costs of training and running an AI model by a factor of 1000, AI models 1000 times more powerful started being made.

Data centers. While the energy needed to run a super-AI has become much lower, the performances of the hardware these AI run on hasn't improved much in the 22nd century. For this reason, most super-AIs were based in data centers, and people needed to use the Internet to interact with them.

After the Flare, most AIs have either shut down, or are running "degradated", meaning with only a portion of their former abilities. And since the Internet has broken down, it has become impossible to interact with an AI without being physically in the data center where it is running.
